The MAX8521ETP+T is a smallest TEC power driver for optical modules in 20 pin TQFN package. It is designed to drive thermo electric coolers (TECs) in space constrained optical modules. It delivers ±1.5A output current and control the TEC current to eliminate harmful current surges. On-chip FETs minimize external components and high switching frequency reduces size of external components. It operates from a single supply and bias TEC between outputs of two synchronous buck regulators. This operation allows for temperature control without 'dead zones' or other nonlinearities at low current. This arrangement ensures that the control system does not hunt when set-point is very close to natural operating point, requiring small amount of heating or cooling. An analogue control signal precisely sets TEC current.
