The MAX5904ESA+ is a low voltage, dual hot-swap controller/power sequencer in 8 pin NSOIC package. This circuit breaker IC for hot swap applications where line card is inserted into live backplane. Device hot swap supplies ranging from +1V to +13.3V provided one supply is at or above 2.7V. The discharged filter capacitors of circuit card provide low impedance to live backplane. High inrush currents from backplane to circuit card can burn up connectors and components or momentarily collapse backplane power supply leading to a system reset. It offers a variety of options to reduce component count and design time. The device is integrated with an onboard charge pump to drive gates of low cost, external N-channel MOSFETs. The devices offer integrated features like start-up current regulation and current glitch protection to eliminate external timing resistors and capacitors. It is used in PCI-express applications, network switches or routers, solid-state circuit breaker.
