The MAX31855KASA+ is a cold junction compensated thermocouple to digital converter with built-in 14bit analogue to digital converter in 8 pin NSOIC package. The device contains cold junction compensation sensing and correction, digital controller, SPI compatible interface and associated control logic. It is designed to work in conjunction with an external microcontroller (μC) in thermostatic, process control or monitoring applications. The MAX31855K performs cold junction compensation and digitizes the signal from K type thermocouple with measuring temperature range of -200°C to +1350°C. The Thermocouple temperature gain and offset error ((41.276μV/°C nominal sensitivity)) is ±2°C at T (thermocouple) = -200°C to +700°C, TA = -20°C to +85°C. The data outputs in a signed 14bit, SPI compatible read only format.
Supply voltage range from 3V to 3.6V
Serial clock frequency of 5MHz
Integration reduces design time and lowers system cost
Detects thermocouple shorts to GND or VCC and open thermocouple
14bit, 0.25°C resolution converter
Power supply current is 900μA
Thermocouple input bias current is 100nA
Temperature conversion time is 70ms and thermocouple conversion power-up time is 200ms
