The MAX1970EEE+ is a dual, 180° out of phase step down regulator in 16 pin QSOP package. It is a smallest internal switch step down converter for GBICs, xDSL modems and routers, USB powered devices and dual LDO replacement applications. This current mode PWM buck regulator operates from 2.6V to 5.5V input and delivers minimum of 750mA on each output. The MAX1970 operates at fixed 1.4MHz frequency to reduce output inductor/capacitor size and cost. Ceramic capacitors can be used for input and output. The output voltages are programmable from 1.2V to VIN using external feedback resistors or can be preset to 1.8V or 3.3V for output 1 and 1.5V or 2.5V for output 2. Internal soft start reduces inrush current during start-up. The MAX1970 has power-on reset (active-low POR) function and also has an open drain power fail output (PFO) that monitors input voltage and goes high when input falls below 3.94V. For USB powered xDSL modems, this output can be used to detect USB power failure.
Ultra compact design with smallest external components
Operating temperature range from -40°C to 85°C
180° out of phase operation reduces the input capacitor size and cost
±1% output accuracy over load, line and temperature ranges
Power-on reset delay of 16.6ms
Supply current of 10mA (switching with no load VIN = 3.3V)
Minimum switching frequency of 1.2MHz ensures operation outside the xDSL band
