The MAX1270ACAI+ is a multirange, 8-channel, serial 12bit SAR analogue to digital converter (ADC) in 28 pin SSOP package. This 12bit data acquisition system (DAS) requires only a single +5V supply for operation and accepts signals at analogue inputs that can span above the power supply rail and below ground. The MAX1270 provides eight analogue input channels that are independently software programmable for a variety of voltage ranges such as ±10V, ±5V, 0 to +10V, 0 to +5V. This range switching increases effective dynamic range to 14bit and provides flexibility to interface 4mA to 20mA, ±12V and ±15V powered sensors directly to a single +5V system. A fault condition on any channel will not affect the conversion result of selected channel. The device includes 5MHz bandwidth track/hold, software selectable internal/external clock and internal 4.096V or external reference operation. It is used in battery powered instruments and automatic testing applications.
